Lips : Aftercare

This will help you through the healing process to ensure that you look after your lips during this important stage as it could make or break the outcome.

No exercise, cleansers, makeup, swimming or spas on the area until peeling has finished. Keep area dry for the first 24hours. It is necessary to keep applying cream to keep the area moist. It will look slightly darker the day after the procedure, very light at 2 weeks after the healing has finished and the true colour will appear at 4-6 weeks.

For some clients it is perfect, others it may be too light, or patchy in some areas. It is important to schedule the touch-up appointment 4-6 weeks after the initial treatment.

Always remember that every cosmetic tattoo will need a touch up session! This is where we fix pigments that have fallen out.

  • Immediately after the treatment lips will be slightly swollen and tender and colour will appear much darker than the one chosen during the consultation.
  • Apply the non-petroleum lip balm constantly to keep the lips moist.
  • The balm will help with soreness, dryness and as well as holding the colour in. If you do not apply enough cream the lips begin to tighten and pigmentation will come out.
  • Please do not pick – they will exfoliate on their own.
  • No kissing, hot drinks, spicy foods for the first day
  • No eating water spinach, sticky rice, dark coloured foods and drinks until the lips have pealed
  • No lipstick within the first 2 months.
  • The lips will exfoliate quickly after 3-4 days.
  • Full lip treatments do take longer, usually a week before the swelling and flaking has finished.
  • Please do not be worried if you loose colour as you can lose up to 80% the first time.

Cold Sores

If you have ever had a cold sore, even only one in your life, you will more than likely breakout. This is caused by stress on the lips. Precautions that maybe taken one-week prior to treatment are:

  • Lysine tablets or Famvir Tablets from the Chemist
  • Zovirex Cream
  • Doctors Prescription of anti viral medication

The above are only precautions and cannot guarantee you will not breakout as the Herpes virus is always present in your system
